Our Impact Patient Stories In Memory of Josh White: A Tribute by Ellie In August of last year, 22-year-old Josh White was involved in a tragic motorcycle road traffic incident. Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) was tasked to the scene and our team provided critical care before airlifting him to Southmead Hospital. Very sadly, Josh passed away two days later, leaving his family and friends distraught. Everyone who knew Josh say that he was a wonderful soul, a very popular young man who lived life to the full. He had a large group of friends and a beautiful girlfriend called Ellie who he adored. After Josh’s passing, Ellie decided that she wanted to raise funds for DSAA, as without the care that he received, the family would not have had the chance to say goodbye. She began her journey of fundraising by asking for donations to DSAA instead of receiving presents on her birthday. The support was overwhelming and her Facebook birthday fundraiser raised an impressive £515. A Skydive in Josh’s Memory Ellie’s courage and love for Josh shone through when she and her sister Alisha decided to take on a skydive in his memory. They chose to do this on the 25th of November, which would have been Josh’s 23rd birthday. Ellie shared: "One thing I promised Josh was that I would try my best to make him proud and I hope I am doing that. Never in a million years would he believe that I would actually jump from a plane at such a height, but I knew that he would be with me the whole time." The skydive was a resounding success, not only in terms of personal achievement but also as a fundraising effort. Through the generous support of friends, family and the community, Ellie’s skydive raised a remarkable £6,683. A Heartfelt Visit to the Airbase In February, Ellie, Alisha, and their mum visited our airbase to meet some of the team members who cared for Josh on that difficult day. As you can imagine it was an emotional visit for everyone involved when they met some of the team that cared for Josh on the day, but one that they truly treasured. Continuing Josh’s Legacy Josh’s memory continues to inspire acts of kindness and generosity. At the time of writing, Ellie is organising a special Memorial Day, bringing together family and friends to celebrate Josh’s life and continue supporting Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. We are deeply moved by Ellie’s bravery and dedication and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported her efforts. Josh’s memory will live on through these acts of love and the funds raised will help us continue providing life-saving care across Dorset and Somerset.
