The Treatment and Care We Provide

At Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA), we provide life-saving critical care and rapid transfers for the most seriously ill and injured people across our region. Our expert teams of consultant level doctors and specialist practitioners go above and beyond to deliver hospital-level treatment, directly at the scene of an incident.

    Delivering Pre-Hospital Care

Our crews are trained to handle complex medical emergencies, offering advanced interventions such as blood transfusions, surgical procedures, sedation and anaesthesia. These interventions, combined with expert pain management, help stabilise patients in critical conditions, giving them the best chance of survival before they reach hospital.

    Specialist Teams, Specialist Care

We are tasked by a dedicated Helicopter Emergency Medica Service (HEMS) desk in the ambulance service control centre to the most serious patients in the region. Our ability to deliver critical and enhanced care at the scene sets us apart, providing vital treatment when every second counts. This includes utilising the latest techniques and technology to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care.

    How we are deployed

    Life-Saving Blood Transfusions

For patients experiencing catastrophic blood loss, our crews carry and administer blood products at scene and en-route to hospital. This can be the difference between life and death, stabilising patients and giving them a fighting chance of survival.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Patient and Family Liaison Team Nurses 2024

    Compassion Beyond the Emergency

From the moment we arrive, our focus is on the patient. Once patients reach the hospital, our patient and family liaison nurses are swiftly on hand to provide support during the hardest time of their lives. Their work is a crucial part of the clinical care and support we provide to patients and their families.

Thanks to the generous support of the community, DSAA continues to provide pre-hospital care, saving lives every day across Dorset and Somerset. Together, we help ensure that expert care is always available, wherever and whenever it’s needed most.
