Our Impact News 100 Miles in October Challenge raises over £31,000 for DSAA! This October, 266 incredible participants took on the 100 Miles in October Challenge to support Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA), raising an outstanding £31,223.76 including Gift Aid. This year’s challenge exceeded all expectations, surpassing last year’s total of £21,829.03. The challenge invited people to move 100 miles throughout October - by walking, running, cycling, swimming or any other activity. Participants were encouraged to take part at their own pace, anywhere and received a complimentary t-shirt to wear during the challenge. For many, this event became a chance to embrace fitness while raising money for a charity that meant a lot to them. Among the many inspiring stories were two top fundraisers who went above and beyond: Participants like Kevin and Elizabeth weren’t alone in their extraordinary efforts. Countless others surpassed the 100-mile goal, sharing their personal connections to the charity and their motivations to support DSAA’s vital work. The atmosphere throughout the month was filled with encouragement and determination, with participants cheering each other on and sharing personal connections to the charity. Colin Smith (69) cycled an incredible 520.71 miles, inspired by a challenge from his daughter to reach 300 miles. Colin said: "I’ve lost weight, feel great and am so grateful to everyone who donated - it truly kept me motivated." Another participant, Martyn Harris (35), shared how living near the DSAA airbase gives him daily reminders of the charity’s life-saving work. He explained: "Every time the helicopter flies overhead, I know they’re heading to someone’s worst moment. Supporting DSAA is vital and I’m proud to be part of this challenge again." The funds raised will ensure the air ambulance remains operational, helping to save lives across Dorset and Somerset. From emergency helicopter missions to critical care response by car, every donation helps keep this vital service running. We’re delighted to announce the 100 Miles in October Challenge will return in 2025 and we’d love to see even more people join us! Whether you take part as a first-timer or return for another year, your support will enable us to be there for patients when they need us the most. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated and supported this year’s event. You’ve made a real impact to the lives of so many patients. Want to be part of the fun next year?
