At 92 years young, Jean Scott has ticked off a lifelong dream: riding the legendary Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. Covering 2,700 miles on the back of a Harley-Davidson, Jean’s incredible journey wasn’t just about the adventure - she also raised vital funds for DSAA along the way.

Meet Jean

Jean is a member of the Somerton Ukulele Band in Somerset, an organisation that regularly fundraises for DSAA. So, when taking on her own personal challenge, Jean decided to dedicate her fundraiser to our charity as well!

Why DSAA?

When asked why she chooses to fundraise for DSAA, she said:

“No matter who is in trouble, whatever the situation or circumstances, if DSAA is needed, the team will be there. The service is truly open to all who need it, making it a very worthy cause that deserves every bit of help it can get.”

Route 66 - the ride for charity

A legendary road and one determined lady – Jean’s journey covered 2,700 miles and the width of a continent.

The trip covered great plains, scenic mountain ranges, canyons, and deserts. From the Petrified Forest to wild west towns, the Grand Canyon, and the Chain of Rocks Bridge, the highlights were endless. But for her, the real joy was the freedom of riding mile after mile out in the open, experiencing places like Kansas, Amarillo, and Oklahoma, places she grew up hearing about.

Jean had dreamt of this trip since her early married days, when she and her late husband, Nowell, explored Europe by motorbike. At 92, it was a case of now or never, so Jean chose now, riding all the way to Los Angeles and proudly earning her title as a true American biker chick.

Jean has raised an amazing £730 so far for DSAA through her online fundraising page and offline through her Ukulele Band.

What an achievement! Here’s to her next adventure!
