Our Impact News Ballistic Bikers pedal 130 miles for DSAA from Bodmin to Hazlegrove School This weekend, the Ballistic Bikers will pedal over 130 miles to raise funds for DSAA. This huge challenge grew from the imagination of four boys, a lively playground conversation, and a dream. Polly, Hambo’s mum, explains how the boys created the route and the challenge entirely on their own, and “like a bolt out of the blue,” their plan came to life. The cyclists will cover 130 miles and 8,500 feet of elevation over three days, following an epic route that starts in Bodmin and finishes at Hazlegrove School. They aim to arrive by break time, ready for a warm welcome across the finish line from their school friends and teachers! Who are the Ballistic Bikers? The Ballistic Bikers are made up of four adventurous friends: Louis, Ed, Freddie, and Hambo. Let’s meet the dream team! We heard from Polly, Hambo’s mum, on how the boys also have a full support team helping them along: “We’ve all got behind them, with their fathers training with the boys ready for the cycle. This includes experienced road cyclists and total newbies to the Lycra-clad sport! It’s going to be a tough challenge. The boys are all capable of cycling the distance of one day, but repeating it three days running is going to be the ultimate challenge, and despite the toughest hills being at the start, by day three climbing the Blackdown Hills will feel like an Alpine col for their tired legs. We couldn’t be prouder of these boys, their drive, enthusiasm, and their desire to make a difference.” So far, the boys have raised nearly £2,000 for DSAA!
