In a true testament to the power of collaboration, the community of Tonedale, Wellington, have come together to make their home safer by funding and installing a new public access defibrillator – joining Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance’s growing life-saving community.

Creating a heart-safe community

Concerned about the lack of defibrillators in the area, a group of residents led by Valerie May decided to take action and began fundraising to purchase a device for their neighbourhood. Through their efforts, the group raised an impressive £1,000.

To help bring the project over the finish line, the Wellington Hospital League of Friends kindly agreed to make up the remaining cost, ensuring the defibrillator could be purchased and installed without delay through DSAA's Life Support initiative.

Local business Tonedale One Stop also played a vital role by organising and paying for the installation of the defibrillator on the outside wall of the shop, ensuring that the device is always easily accessible for residents and visitors.

Valerie May, Tonedale resident, says:

“I am extremely grateful to the league for their support. Don't you just love it when people in the community come together to get things done. This is exactly what has happened at Tonedale”

Community action saves lives

Our crew can be anywhere within Dorset and Somerset in approximately 20 minutes, but the care a patient receives before we arrive can play a vital role in saving their life.

Thank you to the residents of Tonedale, the Wellington Hospital League of Friends, and Tonedale One Shop, together you have helped to strengthen the chain of survival in your community.
