Thanks to local resident Dennis James Wood, anyone in Margaret Crescent, Burnham-On-Sea, who faces a cardiac emergency now has a better chance of survival.

A new life-saving defibrillator has been installed in Margaret Crescent’s community, thanks to the generosity of local resident Dennis who, after noticing that there were very few publicly accessible defibrillators in the area, wanted to do something that would help protect his neighbours and wider community.

His incredible thoughtfulness and commitment to the safety of others means that the whole estate now has faster access to a life-saving piece of equipment in the event of a cardiac emergency.

Community support

Lyn, a fellow Margaret Crescent resident (pictured above), has been on hand to help out and has kindly agreed to be Margaret Crescent’s defibrillator Guardian – providing the necessary checks to ensure the device remains “rescue ready”.

She says:

“Dennis has a heart problem, and after looking around our area to see how many defibrillators are about, which is not that many, he decided to purchase one for our estate, to serve all of the community. This generosity really shows how he is thinking of others rather than himself.”

Celebrating life-saving action

Rosie Cornelius-Light is the charity’s Fundraising Officer and coordinates the Life Support project. She says:

“Our crew can be anywhere within Dorset and Somerset in approximately 20 minutes, but the care a patient receives before we arrive can play a vital role in saving their life. By placing a defibrillator in his community, Dennis has made a meaningful difference to those around him.

We are incredibly grateful to Dennis for taking this important step and for helping to strengthen the chain of survival in his community and beyond.

Thank you, Dennis!”
