Our Impact News Somerset team complete Three Peaks Challenge in memory of friend Many of our supporters choose to give in memory - a special way to honour and celebrate the life of a loved one. One inspiring example comes from Aimee and her team, who recently completed the Three Peaks Challenge in memory of their dear friend, Sarah. Their determination and dedication are a beautiful tribute, and a powerful reminder of the impact one life can have. Meet the team Taking on the challenge was a dedicated team from Porlock Ladies FC, including Aimee James, Hannah Worth, Amber Coles, Izzy Fitzgerald, Julie Netherway, and Jess Kerslake. They were joined by Hannah’s dad, Bob Worth, and her boyfriend, Matt Brown. Supporting the team behind the scenes was their football coach, Adrian Shopland, who played a vital role as their driver, ensuring they got safely from peak to peak. The challenge The Three Peaks Challenge requires climbing the three highest peaks in the UK, Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England), and Snowdon (Wales) in under 24 hours. Why the Three Peaks Challenge? When Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer, Aimee and Hannah completed the Race for Life, raising over £1,200 for Cancer Research. When Sarah unexpectedly passed away, Aimee decided she needed to do something bigger for her - and the three peak challenge was borne. The team were no strangers to the UK’s highest peaks, having already conquered Snowdon and Scafell in the past. In preparation for the challenge, they trained hard, taking on regular runs, hikes, and trail routes, even completing a ten-mile sponsored hike with their club. In memory of Sarah “Sarah was an amazing lady, wife, mother and daughter. She was taken too soon and I know she will be with us on this day watching over us, I will be sure to have a few minutes at the end thinking about her and all the special memories we have of her, she will be missed always.” Aimee kindly shared with us why her and her team decided to fundraise in memory of their friend Sarah. “We chose DSAA as unfortunately although Sarah had got through her treatment, she had just started chemo tablets, and the second day in had an adverse effect and went into cardiac arrest. The air ambulance was there to support her in no time, and, although they were not needed, we knew how much it cost for this to happen. Jess and Izzy are both police officers and also see for themselves how much support the air ambulance needs and what a great job they do.” Challenge completed Aimee and her team successfully completed the Three Peaks Challenge this weekend, in an amazing time of 23 hours and 49 minutes and have raised over £1750 for our life-saving charity. She said: “The weather couldn’t have been better, we were really lucky, it was clear and sunny. Ben Nevis was lovely and so clear, Scafell was similar. Snowdon was in the dark and so so hard, we ran the last two miles. It was the hardest but most amazing thing I’ve ever done.” What an amazing achievement! A huge thank you and congratulations to Aimee, Hannah, Amber, Izzy, Julie, Jess, Bob and Matt. In memory Through their efforts, Aimee and the team have celebrated Sarah’s memory, completed a personal challenge and helped our charity to be there for patients today, tomorrow and in the future. “I think everyone should play a part in fundraising to charities, it doesn’t matter what charity, you just never know when you may need some help yourself.” – Aimee James If you would like to find out more about giving in memory, or view Aimee's JustGiving page, click the buttons below.
